My first post here, I prefer to keep things clean and simple hope you enjoy my Knightly look. The Idea being the chosen knight of the holy grail (Caladbolg, The pale Tree etc etc)

In my own head cannon Fionnabar ( Finn-a-bar ) is one of the two yet to be revealed firstborn and the first Sylvari Guardian of the cycle of Dawn. He wields the burden of the Pale Tree's thorn Caladbolg Though I prefer my hammer in terms of matching the set. His dream foretold him to become a hero to the sylvari people and protector of the grove as the Knight of the Thorn. His wild hunt is to bring and end to Jormag a mighty feat that if he wishes to see through will certainly require the aid of the people he inspires as the wielder of the mighty Caladbolg.

For those who are familiar with Warhammer think of him as a Brettonian Knight though instead of the lady of the lake he answers to the avatar of the tree. In this sense you could call him a Grail Knight

Weapon is the Bioluminescent Hammer - Sometimes I use the Verdant Executioner Outfit instead

The hammer is beautiful and goes well with the armour and the Sylvari in general. The armor set is nothing creative (even some NPCs are fashionably better dressed than your character!). Your character on screens is small (even screens themselves), you can't see details etc.
Conclusion: no armor mix, nothing original, imitation value and pictures are not well done (in short - boring).
Watch some presentations here (e.g.: Current Look Battle Rankings) and get inspired ;)

I appreciate the comment though you mistake my preferance for sets as lack of creativity. My creativity comes in the character as a whole hairstyle face etc colour coordination and class fantasy. I personally find a lot of mix and matched sets to look wrong as the pieces aren't intentionally desinged to go together though of course there are exceptions and sometimes I do it too. But I mainly prefer to look like my character fits into the world almost as an npc apposed to looking like an MMO character just my taste.

Everyone wants to break the mold and create something crazy but sometimes the mold is perfectly fine as it is. Just my opinion.

I'll give you gold, cause I like what I see. I like how your face, hair and skin color go perfectly with the armor and weapon. That's what matter for me.

I agree with you as far as the statement is concerned: "as the pieces aren't intentionally desinged to go together". And because of this, Modestylist's job is to use creativity/armour mix to style a character so that everything fits together (so with your words to create "this exception")!
That's your character and you can keep running around the way you want, but that has nothing to do with fashion/style.

I agree with Frans for the most part. When we speak of creativity here it's the act of making all those mismatch pieces of armor into something that looks unique and different than what the original pieces made. Stories matter, but you'll notice that much of the judging criteria is for visual, not literary aspects. There is only one spot to judge your fantasy story and three spots to judge the visual aspect with two of them focused on your ability to mix and match various pieces.

Things like hairstyle do come into play with some of the visual aspects but as a general rule of thumb people here push for others to go beyond just using a single set or an outfit. Anyone can do that. The real challenge is seeing six pieces of armor from 2 to 6 different sets and seeing something new and unique. Even similar concepts can come up with two different looks (I've created three different cowboy looks and Frans created their own cowboy look and all of them use different pieces, for the most part, to achieve the same desired goal as an example). Also, several of the NPC's actually have pieces of armor from different sources. Look at some of the people you meet during the starting Sylvari story. Many of them mix the Sylvari culture armor with pieces from other armors. When you go to make a character many of the starting pictures you see for each profession are created using a mixture of different armor sets as opposed to single armor sets. The NPC's of this game is composed of folks who use single armor sets and folks who use a combination of different armor sets. This makes it clear that mixing armors is a part of this games story world and not just a mere act of making an MMO character (though even if you use a single set of armor you are still just making an MMO character).

I think this site can be best summed up as "break the mold!!" That doesn't mean you shouldn't post your looks. By all means, do so. Just recognize that people are likely to give you low scores and are going to push you to go beyond just the basic look.

I encourage you to flex your own creative muscles and present something unique. A character who is destined to kill Jormag is likely to look apart from the world as opposed to another random NPC you encounter in the Grove.

From my point of view, creativity, and not to forget individuality, is what makes a presentation interesting.
The presentation is like an advertising campaign (sharing a single idea and a single theme). As the leader of the advertising campaign you tell a story about the character through clothing, shapes and colors. You write that your creativity comes in the figure as a whole hairstyle face, color matching and class fantasy... This is only a very very small part of the whole (a person can be a color consultant without knowing the basic principles of line or style!). As a colour consultant you identify only the most flattering colours for your model. You are also a stylist and your goal is: different parts of armor should be perceived as belonging together and possibly associated with "the associated brand". As a director, you are looking for places that match your idea and styling. As a photographer, you ensure that your model is presented in the right light. And last but not least, you'll be a copywriter writing a short story or a few sentences about the outfit.
