The time of the annual Canthan New Year celebration is approaching!
The Canthan New Year or Moon Festival is a special event held annually, usually in late January to early February, celebrating the special celestial animal that will watch over Canthans in the coming year. During the celebrations Canthan citizens work to prepare special meals for the Celestial Animal and if the animal is pleased, it will bestow good luck upon the citizens. The primary celebrations occur on Shing Jea Island on the Shing Jea Boardwalk______________________________________________
Would you like to know what awaits you in the coming year? Then you should pay a visit to the fortune teller, who can give you a very real - and legally binding - assessment of your fate. Whether your fate is good or bad, it will surely follow you into the world beyond Shing Jea. That's what a fortune teller told me: Every year, during the New Year's festival, the Shing Jea monastery is under the sign of an animal. Of course, here, the main venue, it is beautifully decorated. The large courtyard square is adorned with strings of lanterns and many colourful lights. The dragon masks that are attached look particularly interesting due to the dreamlike lighting conditions. It's fun to just linger here for a while...At Shing Jea Monastery, a heavenly beast every three hours to enjoy a taste of Canthan cuisine. The climax of the feast is celebrated with dancing, fireworks and gifts for all present ... but only if the celestial being is satisfied with its meal! Don't you believe me? We'll meet next year on Shing Jea Island :)

A few days ago ANet added new Canthan faces and hairstyles to the game. In addition, two beautiful weapons - Infused Blades Package (sword + dagger)... That's how I wanted to create a canthan character. I didn't like the hairstyles offered for humans, the more the ones available for Norn and Sylvari. So I restyled a norn for myself and out of anticipation for Cantha I also made a somewhat Asian look. I chose pieces of armour to create a bit of a kimono look and for feet I chose Raven Ceremonial Sandals, which are like Japanese Zori.
I hope you have fun with my Asian dragon tamer:)

Great look! The shoulder piece fits surprisingly well. My only comment is the dye choice -- black is not commonly used in eastern asian culture. I know this is canthan, but you know, canthan draws inspiration from the east asian culture. Tbh, I wonder if, without the backpiece, this would still retain that canthan theme.

Thank you for your detailed comment!
I always research (and usually quite thoroughly). According to traditional Chinese belief, all natural phenomena can be traced back to five elements: black - the colour of the water element, is a symbol in China for winter, the north and at the same time stands for honour and high dignity. In fact, black was a very special colour in China for a long time - it was literally revered as the queen of all colours. (And so it is not surprising that Qin Shi Huang Di, the first emperor of China, wore black clothes when he ascended the throne and also chose black as the colour of his flags and pennants on that day).
And as for the Cantha/Asian look - I still have an album with the remaining pictures: with a different back item and without any https://imgur.com/a/4cZXrn0

Wow you've apparently done your research! In that case I maybe a bit misinformed, my apologies. I was basing it on my parents saying that we wear black only during funerals. Obviously not practiced everyday, but during cultural events we avoid black.

Anyway, yup so I still like the look without the backpiece, it feels less Canta-ny but still holds! :)

I like the dragony detail on the skirt and the fact that you used the rat backpiece, my favorite of the bunch.
That said, the dye job feels a bit plain and ordinary, especially as the armor pieces are fairly simple ones as well.

What a lovely look, it is toned down and modest, which is nice. It still looks very elegant and your character is absolutely beautiful!
