King in Yellow

What is madness but a differing form of knowledge? The Sylvari, as a race, are to young to understand madness. But individuals? Individual Sylvari take look into the unknowable and are forever changed.

My newest character, and to round out the professions, is a Mesmer. I've been playing him for awhile but since I want to change up his look for a possible Equinox look I decided to post his first look. I'm a big Lovecraftian horror fan and when I created this toon I was in the middle of The King in Yellow. The idea of madness, though, fits a Mesmer in my opinion. I also made him extremely short. The PvP small golem is actually taller than him.

The toon has a boyishly cute face and I opted to use the mask you get at the beginning of character creation. It gives him more personality than I think going maskless would have. I ended up picking my leggings first opting to go with the Spearmarshal set. The robe like nature of it works well for a magic user. Meanwhile, I ended up really liking the scarf from the Trickester's Vest. Sometimes I opted to use the Masquerade Mantle to give him a more formal look but I just as often played without it. The shoe's were the Spearmarshal's shoes. There's something about the leggings that makes all the shoes look like smaller foot versions and they kinda look odd if you're not just using the actual shoes the look was created for. No gloves were needed.

Since The King in Yellow was the initial inspiration I decided to make use of yellow shades for the look. To complement the yellows I used I tossed in the occasional highlights from brown, red, and black. They made the outfit stand out more in my book than just a straight yellow theme. I went to the Auric Basin for my pictures. I realized I hadn't done anything in the HoT maps. But what appealed about Auric Basin is that it had all these yellows and golds that helped with the look. The Forgotten City of Tarir especially so.

This look was also for my Chronomancer build. So for my sword, shield, and greatsword, I used the Timekeeper skins. I also made use of the Timekeeper glider. With the right colors it is rather amazing.
