Seeing as mesmers usually seems to be of the more "noble nature" (Countess Anise, Queen Jennah, Kashmeer, etc.) I always think of them as being very fashinable and "rich"-looking. Mesmers are still master manipulators and therefore identity is key.
As everyone in my guild knows, my mesmer, Theseus, focuses a lot on glamour and manipulation skills. This has earned him the nickname "Glamour Boy". So my goal was for him to look fashonable - Glamourous, if you want - but with a mesmery feel to it. So I kept his mask and the Trickster's Gloves for this.
