Hazer didn't know what actions he took in life to get here, maybe it was over throwing his corrupt legionnaire. Maybe it was agreeing to take on the negotiations mission for Howl's amulet. All he knows is that now he has killed too many to count, and the son of his friend is a renegade soldier trying to tear the world asunder via elder dragon. He's lost so many people that he loves, Eir, Trahearne, and so many more. Watching Taimi slowly dying from her disease and the distraught vigil survivors being lured to an icy death from sweet promises of peace from Jormag...maybe this path was destined for someone else...someone else less reluctant.
