Belbeleth, my oldest character, and thus the one with the least canon name, has gone through quite a few changes in style. She was originally decked in full antique gold: this was her 'thing'--the minute I could afford plain gold dye (I really struggled with financial matters early into the game) she shimmered her way through the upper levels, accented with whatever vivid blue or red or pink that dropped.
Nowadays, it feels like she's aged somewhat. Her colors are more muted, down-to-earth. This combination is centered around the protective Brawn of Koda which I mulled through PvP for, having set my heart on it just after the dungeon nerf. I was drawn to the Brawn of Koda because it was the only armor that was visually interesting to me, while also appearing practical (pls no boob window) and hinting at her Norn heritage. It was important to me that she wasn't just a tall human, but a proud Norn and visibly dedicated to her culture. (Koda works well for this--shows off her tattoos.)
This is what her look is based upon: she's getting up there in age, she's accomplished things in her life--this look hopes to convey the experience and practicality of a veteran while still showing her personal style and culture. Braham's pieces worked well for this, being both sturdy-looking, Norn-like, and decorated with decals of Wolf, Bel's chosen spirit, and tied with the Koda chestpiece, all metal and leather, slightly weathered but not beaten.
It's definitely not ideal (the long braid, which I love, basically gets rid of every shoulder option I admire) nor the most creative, but I believe it reflects her personality and the little backstory I've had in mind while playing her for this long year I've spent in GW2.
(The dyes pictured aren't current. While the green contrast was nice, Bel now wears darker red colors for Halloween.)

I really like this look - showing off the tattoos is a really nice touch when it comes to being proud of the Norn heritage. Love the muted colour scheme too, definitely works nicely for a veteran-style warrior.
